It is significant to note that Christ's greatest commission to his disciples was given shortly after his resurrection. When he arose from the grave it was an inspired hour which signified final victory after death, hell, and the grave. Jesus stood in full triumphant power. His presence radiated a sense of "Mission Accomplished" for he had fulfilled the commission received from his father. Now he must perform one final act. He must commit to his disciples their SUPREME COMMISSION. During the forty days following his resurrection, Jesus shifted the attention of the disciples from a very small religions community to a vast unknown heathen world. This briefly-trained, insignificant group faced the challenge of focusing the attention of the whole world upon the risen Christ. As each disciple pondered just how this great task would be accomplished, Jesus spoke; "GO YE INTO ALL THE WORLD AND PREACH THE GOSPEL TO EVERY CREATURE...AND THESE SIGNS SHALL FOLLOW THEM THAT BELIEVE." This word "GO" was an imperative command and carried a sense of urgency that no previous commission contained. While the word "YE" is very personal. At the same time it includes every believer in its all-encompassing scope. The two previous commissions of Christ, recorded in Matthew 10 and Luke 10, were limited to twelve men and then to seventy. In contrast, the great post-resurrection commission was limitless--it extended to all believers giving them power and authority over all the power of the enemy. We have a lot to live up to today. The evangelization of the world is still the direct responsibility of every believer. The post-resurrection commission "GO..." is not optional but rather it is an imperative command. Every Christian must find a way individually and in co-operation with others, to carry the message of the Kingdom of God to all the world. If we take this commission seriously, as Christ intended, this challenge will not only transform our individual lives, but it will also bring every segment of the church into a major revelation.
