It is a never-to-be-forgotten experience when we have a promise of God, step out in faith, and see God doing things on our behalf. Joshua 3:13-16 states, "As soon as the feet of the Priests shall rest in the water; the waters shall be cut off, and stand upon an heap." As the feet of the Priests were dipped in the water, the waters rose upon a heap and were cut off, and the people passed over. The Priests who carried the Ark of the Covenant into the Jordan River saw God work. It would not have been enough for them to have stood close to the edge of the water, believed on the great ability of God to stop the flow several miles upstream, and pile up the water as though there was a great dam. We all know God is able to do such a thing, but "Will God do this for me?" What would our answer be? We know God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Every Christian is as precious in God's sight as the people of Israel were precious in His sight. The Israelites didn't make the mistake at the edge of the Jordan of merely reckoning God's ability to do what He promised. They didn't stand to see what God would do. When they received their marching orders to go into the river, the Priests led with the Ark, and the waters parted. The Priests got their feet wet. That is the only way faith operates. We have tried this method over and over again in Christian Missionary Association. Every overseas training seminar has been set up by faith. Each one costing several thousand dollars. From the natural standpoint it looked impossible. As we've stepped out in faith, God has always parted the water and supplied the need. In one case, He waited until the night before we were to leave for Haiti. This is what happened when the Priests stepped into the water carrying the Ark. Humanly, the passage of the Jordan at the time and place seemed impossible, yet in the end God gave the victory. It was not necessary for the Israelites to see the great volume of water piling higher and higher. All they needed to do was to believe God and keep their eyes on the Ark, which represented the presence of God.
