RUN WITH PATIENCE

"Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us."  (Hebrews 12:1)

We are told here, there are weights which are not sins in themselves, but which become distractions and stumbling blocks in our Christian progress.

Notice first the distinction between "weights" and "sin"; how runners strip themselves of every weight possible, wearing the lightest clothing and the lightest shoes!  Many a weight carrier who may eventually get to Heaven, will be passed on the way by those who have laid weights aside.

We may ask the question, "What is the harm or sin in my doing this or that thing; engaging in this business, or indulging in that pleasure?".  The question is answered just here.  Is this thing a weight, or is it a wing?  Is it that which speeds you on your course; or does it hold you back?...  Weights are not necessarily external; they are first of all in the heart.

The heavy heart is indeed a weight that will drag us down and hinder us.  The inward conflict is often the result, or the accompaniment, of outward conflict.  The moment a thing gets a place in my heart and mind, which is not in God's mind for me, it becomes a weight, know matter what it is.

There are three secrets in this verse:
  1. We must turn loose of the past.
Turn loose of our past mistakes and failures.  Our heroes of old, in Hebrews 11, weren't perfect; they made mistakes, but out of weakness were made strong.
  2. Reach for the future.
We must have a vision and a goal.
  3. Rest in today.
We can run with patience, enduring the race that is set before us.
"Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."  (Hebrews 12:2)

In the above verse, "Looking" means either looking off or looking away from every distraction.  We can run with he winners in this life, but we must keep our eyes upon Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

FAMILY NEWS

I was privileged to have my 3 oldest grandchildren and their families (4 great-grandchildren !) with me over the 4th of July weekend.  Marc and Dionne (Shirley's children) live in St. Louis and Chris (Don's son) lives in Louisiana.  It is the first time since their grandfather's memorial service, 12 years ago, that Marc and Chris have seen each other.  Don and his family were unable to make it because of the fires in Ormond Beach, FL where he lives and has his business.

Wedding bells rang out for my daughter, Shirley, on June 7th after being single for 9 years.  She was united in marriage to Capt. Bill Randall of Homony, OK.  They both are employed at the Conners Correctional Ctr. for men.

Phillip Saunders
Manchester, CT.
A great pastor and missionary statesman
was called home to be with the Lord on June 30, 1998

Phillip Saunders had been a personal friend of ours over the years.  He introduced Henry Redman to mission areas of the world that few people knew existed.  Such as the Myrona Indians in Peru, the Quechuas in the high Sierras, and others in the jungles surrounding the Amazon waters.  They became another Paul and Barnabas, traveling together in missions work to many foreign countries.  Sister Saunders and I had the privilege of going with them a few times.

Three weeks before leaving on one of my trips to the Philippines, my finances were far below what I needed.  There just seemed to be no way possible for that amount to come in.  Phillip Saunders had been praying, asking God what he should do in support of this work and God revealed to him to send $3,000.  It was exactly what I needed.

God used Phillip Saunders in so many wonderful ways throughout his lifetime.  We will miss him greatly.

THE DOOR OF OPPORTUNITY OPENS IN PERU

Our next ladies training seminar will be held in Lima, Peru in November with Pastor Robert Barringer.  Many of the Peruvian women are abused and homeless with low self-esteem.  I have such a burning compassion for the hurt and wounded, to let them know how special they are to God.  Please pray for this seminar.

If you feel lead to help with this project, please mark your check:  Peru .  It will be greatly appreciated.

Your financial contributions toward travel expenses for the seminars are greatly appreciated. Please designate on your check the seminar you wish to help with.

We'd love to hear from you:
