"Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us." (Hebrews 12:1) We are told here, there are weights which are not sins in themselves, but which become distractions and stumbling blocks in our Christian progress. Notice first the distinction between "weights" and "sin"; how runners strip themselves of every weight possible, wearing the lightest clothing and the lightest shoes! Many a weight carrier who may eventually get to Heaven, will be passed on the way by those who have laid weights aside. We may ask the question, "What is the harm or sin in my doing this or that thing; engaging in this business, or indulging in that pleasure?". The question is answered just here. Is this thing a weight, or is it a wing? Is it that which speeds you on your course; or does it hold you back?... Weights are not necessarily external; they are first of all in the heart. The heavy heart is indeed a weight that will drag us down and hinder us. The inward conflict is often the result, or the accompaniment, of outward conflict. The moment a thing gets a place in my heart and mind, which is not in God's mind for me, it becomes a weight, know matter what it is. There are three secrets in this verse:
In the above verse, "Looking" means either looking off or looking away from every distraction. We can run with he winners in this life, but we must keep our eyes upon Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. FAMILY NEWSWedding bells rang out for my daughter, Shirley, on June 7th after being single for 9 years. She was united in marriage to Capt. Bill Randall of Homony, OK. They both are employed at the Conners Correctional Ctr. for men.
