STRENGTH AND COURAGE

BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE, fear not, nor be afraid of them; for the Lord thy God, He it is who doth go with thee; He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.  (Deut.  31:6)

This was one of the last commandments Moses gave Joshua before he died.  God then repeats the commandment in Joshua 1:7.

He is repeating these words to His people again at the offset of this new year, 1998.  STRENGTH AND COURAGE are two qualities the Lord demands of us as we face the unknown future.

The kind of courage that God was speaking of is not a natural virtue and does not come through a person determining to be bold.  We can't even pray it up in itself.  First of all, such courage does not exist apart from faith.  Faith is its basis.  Before I can be courageous to venture out on the basis of what I believe, I first must really believe it is truth.

God's promise was, "Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you."  Faith lays hold of the promise and is therefore the basis for courage.

It was God who promised that every, place in Canaan, which the Israelites claimed by treading thereupon, He would give to them for their possession.  The promise of God to Joshua was that, as He was with Moses, so would He be with His new leader.  God promised not to fail him nor forsake him.  He assured Joshua, "For the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."

The God who spoke these words of promise to Joshua is our God today.  We will never grow in spiritual life until we recognize that the God of Moses and of Joshua, the unfailing God, is also our God.  He has not changed.  So the heart of the matter is for us to let God be God in our lives, to rule and control us, and be sovereign in His leading and direction.

Courage is found in the inner man which motivates our will.  Strength is shown in bodily action and accompanies effort.  "We can do all things through Christ which strengthens us."

DUMAGUETE CITY, PHILIPPINES
PASTOR'S AND LADIES' SEMINAR, April 21-24

Dumaguete City is dubbed as the City of Gentile Feople.  it is the capital city of Negros Oriental.  Dumaguete became a first class city on July 1, 1982 and a chartered city on November 24, 1948.  The city is approximately 250 miles (400 kilometers) south of Manila (capital city of the Philippines) and 130 miles (210 kilometers) southwest of Cebu.  Planes and large-capacity ships use routes to and from these major cities.

The city's population of 90,000 people speak Cebuano (Philippine dialect) and are conversant in Pilipino, the national language.  Dumaguetenos are also notably fluent in English.

Mode of public transportation in and around the city could be experienced aboard its numerous tricycles - motorcycles equipped with sidecars - which comfortably seat 2-3 persons.  Public transportation to nearby municipalities and neighboring cities are via passenger buses and jeepneys.

Pastors Lloyd and Reginia Blount of Hammond, LA will help with the teaching along with myself.  We will leave for the Philippines on April 15th.

There is still time for you to help sponsor a pastor to the April seminar for $16.00.  This includes their travel one-way, food and lodging during the seminar.

Please designate on your check:  "seminar"
