CUZCO, PERU
SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS

NEW PROJECT FOR CMA

In November of 1998, I had the privilege of visiting the Sacred Valley of the Inca Indians while in Cuzco, Peru.  It is a mountain region and one of the most unreached areas of the entire country and perhaps of the continent.  I saw many, many villages that had never heard the name of Jesus.  The people here are direct descendants of what we know as the Inca empire.  This valley was the heart of the political and religious realm of the people.  Still today you are able to see the evidence of this once vast empire.  Not just in the form of ruins, but also in the lives of the people.  Although the ruins are famous world wide, what is not realized by many is that the people still are in bondage to the old ways.  The yearly sacrifice of a llama and the drink offerings poured out to Pacha Mama (Mother Earth) are just a couple of examples.

I became acquainted with Mike Sehon while in Cuzco.  He has a burden to reach these people and bring the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to set the captives free.  He started meetings outdoors in the main plaza in Urubamba.  At that time he saw 55 people pray for salvation but without a building the people didn't have a place to be stabilized

I was so impressed with Mike's vision in reaching the unreached that I wanted CMA to be a part.  With the help of Worldwide Missionary Evangelism (W.S. McMasters president) we were enabled to send $5,000 to renovate a building that will be used for worship.

PROJECT UPDATE

New cement floors in all the rooms
Stucco on almost all the walls
Electric meter
New lights and wall outlets in all of the building
About half of the inside of the building has been painted
30 new chairs have been purchased with 20 more on the way
New bathroom
5 new doors
Purchased musical instruments
Outside work will begin soon

Any monies left over will be used toward the purchase of property for the church in the future.  Mike works under the leadership of Robert Barriger of Lima, Peru.  I plan to return to this area in the year 2000.

Thanks to W.M.F. for making this project possible.

Women In The Danger Zone

The Lord has given me a burden to reach women in 3rd world countries.  After reading this article from the Charisma magazine (June 1999) by Elisabeth Farrell, it gave me a real insight of how women are treated in different countries.  I have listed them below:

***In Pakistan, more than 70% of women in police custody are physically and sexually abused at the hands of their jailers.

***In India, men often marry wealthy women for their dowries, then burn them alive so they can claim the money.

***In Indonesia, dozens of Chinese women have been raped during the recent riots.

***In many Muslim countries, women cannot enter areas where men gather to pray or go out in public unless accompanied by a male relative.

***In parts of Africa, there are taboos against women eating nutritious foods such as eggs, milk and chicken, which are reserved for men only.

***In Afghanistan, women can be publicly beaten and stoned for not wearing head-to-toe covering, including a mesh screen over their eyes.

***In Pakistan, two female witnesses are equal to one male witness in a legal case.

***In many other countries, women are beaten and killed by their fathers, brothers or husbands for actions that "dishonor" the family.
