STORMS OF LIFE

"He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm" Matt 8:26

Jesus Christ used three methods in His earthly ministry; miracles, teaching, and training. The last had the most far-reaching importance because of the future extension of His work. Among the lessons taught to the disciples, the one recorded in this passage was one the most essential; the result of unquestioning trust in their Lord.

Just as the Sea of Galilee was subject to such sudden disturbances, so are these hearts of ours. By strict comparison, that long-ago storm on Galilee speaks to us of those inward tossings and surgings which beset our minds and hearts. Persecution, adversity, etc., may be the outward causes, but the storm itself, as represented by turbulent Galilee, is inward, mental, and spiritual. Adversity besets us, and inwardly there arises a storm of doubt and discouragement.

Many such storms we ourselves simply cannot quell. They seem beyond our control. But if Jesus is in control, He can change them into "a great calm" What lessons we thus learn of His wisdom, power, and love!

When we gird up the loins of our mind by meditating in His word day and night, when the storms of life come, we will have peace in the midst of the storm. Fear, resentment, doubt, evil passion, die way when Jesus really controls the heart. He rebukes the wind and the sea, and there is a "great calm."

Without the importance of calm, human character is hurried with little chance to grow spiritually. The source of our calm is FAITH-never doubting Divine wisdom and power; LOVE-receiving Christ on board of our lives; PRAYER keeping in close touch with Him "in quietness and conftdence."

The storms of life may come and the winds may blow, but He will never let go of our hand, for FAITH leads where reason cannot walk.

NEWS FROM CHRIS REDMAN

Our work at the Woodville Baptist Church has been going great. The church has a strong foundation with a rich heritage. When I consider the highlights of the past several months, two things come to mind. First our Easter Sunday service was tremendous. Of course attendance is almost always up on Easter. However, this time was different. We had a large family reunion in our small town on the Saturday prior to Easter morning. About 30 of the folks from that reunion came to our church on Easter. It turns out that close to fifteen of them were Mormons from Salt Lake City, UT. My text that morning was PhiL 2:9- 11. We had a glorious celebration on the Exaltation of our Lord Jesus Christ To my knowledge, none of the Mormons have converted at this time, but I know they experienced sound doctrine and the power of truth regarding Christ. Second, this past week, my son Adam gave his heart to the Lord. He has been asking his mom and I for many weeks if he was saved. He asked about baptism. He asked about what happens if you don't get saved. Patricia and I would answer his questions but were careful not to push him into a salvation prayer. We were nervous about him not understanding his own salvation fully or prematurely. However, he kept asking. Finally, he told me that he wanted to be saved and I couldn't put it off any longer. I am thrilled that my son has now experienced first hand the salvation of the Lord.

FIJI ISLANDS LADIES MEETINGS

Pastor Lloyd and Regina Blount will travel with me to Fiji. We will leave Los Angeles airport on Thursday, June 14 at 11:30 p.nn. arriving in Fiji on Saturday at 5:10 a.m. As you can see, it is a long flight. Please pray God will give us traveling grace and a safe journey. Above all, please pray the seeds sown into tine lives of these women will be fruitfull and reap a mighty harvest throughout eternity.

If my generation can realize that there is a sense of destiny on the world today, to join hand and heart together, unite our efforts in prayer with one determined goal; to let the world hear the glad story of a risen Christ, we can do the job because He said we could. With those on the home front standing behind us as seed-faith partners, together we'll do the job.

SPECIAL NOTE

Due to the return date from Fiji Islands being at the end of June, the next newsletter will be printed in mid July with pictures from the trip and will therefore be dated July/August.
