FIJI LADIES MEETINGS June 14-29
PEOPLE'S HUNGER FOR GOD IN LABASA, FIJI

Marion Male e-malled following story to me:

Yesterday afternoon I was on my veranda praying and the phone rang. The woman asked if this was the training center?  We talked for a while and she asked lots of questions about the training center.  I asked her how she found out about the center.  She said she had a vision and told me this story.  She was so hungry for God and felt like she was in a wilderness and wanted more of God, so she was praying and crying out for God.  She saw her uncle standing in front of her (in Fijian culture the uncle is very highly respected) and he said for her to contact Marion Male (she had never heard my name before).  She came to town and found a phone directory and found the name. She was so excited and said to herself, this is the person.  So then she went to her cousin to ask for $3 to call me and get back home.  She was telling her cousin about what happened to her and she told her there was a training center in town.  She wondered if it was the same person and training center.  So she called me. What a God! She has been training in the Methodist Training College and is a preacher in the Methodist church (26 years old).

FIJI FACTS AND INFORMATION

Fiji is situated in the South Pacific.  It is an independent nation about 1,300 miles north of New Zealand.  It is an archipelago of more than 300 islands spread over about 1,000,000 square miles.  A British colony for nearly a century, Fiji became independent in 1970.  Only about 105 of Fiji's islands are inhabited.  The larger islands are volcanic and mountainous except in the river valleys.  The smaller islands are mostly coral.  The largest island, Viti Levu, where almost 80% of the population live, covers 4,010 square miles.  Suva, the capital and largest city, is located on its southeast coast.  The climate is tropical with temperatures of 80 degrees.

Although the Indians are denied traditional communal land ownership, they operate most of the sugar plantations.  They brought with them their own religion.  Hinduism has held them in its grip and they used to be labeled as the most resistant people group in the So. Pacific to the Gospel.  But, all of that has been in the process of change over the last 8 years.  Many Indians are coming to Christ.  Some of them are experiencing most unusual visitations of the Holy Spirit and are being delivered from the bondage they have been in.  There are quite a number of churches now that have both Indians and Fijians worshipping together - a real breakthrough.  The problem:  Indians speak Hindi and Fijians speak their own languages.

HAITI POLITICAL UNREST UPDATE

From Bill & Marlene' Burch

Thanks for the prayers.  We are doing well and at the present time things are going smooth.  From one day to the other, we never know what will take place.  When we do go out, we see where they have burned tires on the roads.  There had been some killings this past week.  One was killed that had come in to help the country with the electric problem.  We went 6 days with only 25 minutes of electric.  Those are the hard times.  We do have a peace and we are making it one day at a time.

We do feel better that you have postponed your trip.  One day everything is fine and the next all the streets are blocked with fires burning.  One evening last week the whole sky was dark with smoke.  Also, there is lots of gun fire and we do not know for what reason.  We stay in lots and do what we can here at the mission.

We want you to reset your date, for all the ladies were looking so forward to you coming.  But they said that they do understand.  They know that there is lots of problens.  You should see them call out to God to help them.

Your financial contributions toward travel expenses for the seminars are greatly appreciated. Please designate on your check the seminar you wish to help with.
