March 9-15, 2002 "FAITH IN ACTION" In 1980, Bill & Marlene Burch gave up their home and business to move to the poverty stricken country of Haiti. After the first year in Haiti they found little Ellie, a boy 5 years of age and only 24 pounds. He was living in a garbage dump north of Port-au-Prince. He was a very sick child that needed a lot of medical help. They started "I'm Blessed boy's Home" which housed 8 boys. The Burch's raised these 8 boys from infancy. Today they all have graduated from high school and are in various business fields. Among the 8 boys is little Allie, now a grown young man who has gone into the field of computer and electronics and is taking classes in a trade school. The Burch 's also have a sponsorship program and school for 200 children. I started working with Bill & Marlene conducting ladies seminars in the early 90's, going every other year. The year of 2001 had to be postponed because of the political situation. There are still problems of unrest, but Bill & Marlene feel it is safe for us to come. Our last seminar we had 100 ladies in attendance. The seminar is a highlight in the lives of these ladies. Marlene said the women have gone through a lot of suffering and hardships and are in dire need of encouragement and to be reassured that God cares. I thank the Lord every day He has put me in a position to reach out to the needy and hurting to pour the oil and wine into their wounds. In Luke 10:30-37 Jesus gave an illustration of the good Samaritan: A Jew going on a trip from Jerusalem to Jericho was attacked by bandits. They stripped him of his clothes and money and beat him up and left him lying half dead beside the road. By chance a Jewish priest came along; and when he saw the man lying there, he crossed to the other side of the road and passed him by. A Jewish Temple-assistant walked over and looked at him lying there, but then went on. But a despised Samaritan came along, and when he saw him, he felt deep pity. Kneeling beside him the Samaritan soothed his wounds with medicine and bandaged them. Then he put the man on his donkey and walked along beside him till they came to an inn, where he nursed him through the night.... "Now which of these three would you say was a neighbor to the bandits' victim?" "The one who showed him some pity." Then Jesus said, "Yes, now go and do the same.". (The Living Bible). Haiti is one of the least developed countries in the Western Hemisphere. They have electricity only a couple of hours a day. It is you our partners that make these seminars possible. If you feel that you want to be part of the team, please designate "Haiti Seminar" on your check. Please continue to pray that conditions in Haiti will be good for safe travel while there.
