By the time you receive this newsletter, Sis Lurie Dantin of Golden Meadow, LA and I will be on the Indian reservation of the Ache’ Indians in Paraguay on the boarder of Brazil teaching the Ache’ women. We will be returning home on November 15th. Please keep us in your prayers during this time. Just before leaving, I received the following report from Missionary Bjarne Fostervold. The Aché tribe is going through many serious crises. The stakes are high, and people's lives are at risk in many different ways. At this moment one of the communities has been invaded by landless peasants, another community has the threat to be invaded at any given moment, and a different Aché community does not even hold title yet to their land . When you throw these factors into the mix, along with poor nutrition , loss of hope, an a over all sense of desperation, this can be a very bleak and scary picture for the future. When a group of people become disenfranchised and lose hope in the future, that's where the enemy works the hardest. Today the Aché Indians are struggling to keep their balance and are asking God to keep them safe. But many Aché today are scared, unsure of where the next meal is coming or what could happen to them in the immediate future. This sets the stage for harmful and abusive behavior to happen. We are asking by God's grace for this situation is to be completely reversed in every community. We are asking of the Lord that every community will know him personally, will have a strong core of believers that will uplift their communities in prayer, and through their actions and their lifestyles, show the rest and the world that there's a way to live in victory, abundance and hope. When you come here in November, these will be some of the issues that are under the surface. Women have a hard time in most communities, they are unsure about what is going to happen for their future or their children's. Many times they are fearful for the life of their husbands. They go through many trials and tremendous sacrifice in order to raise their kids. Many times there is domestic violence, abuse, sexual harassment and in some cases, promiscuity and violence. This is especially true in the communities that are fragmented, have lost their culture, language and don't know which way to turn or who they are. That's why it's so important to know that God is interested in them, and that God wants to bless them and give them a future filled with blessing and not with fear and not bad things. O'FALLON, IL REUNION Pastor Hal Santos, Grace Church, Fairview Hgts., IL so graciously invites me back every September to visit the church and old friends that we pastored for 26 years. This Sept. 3 the ladies had a reunion for those that were teenagers when we pastored in E. St. Louis before the church moved to Fairview Hgts. They are now grandparents and live in different states. The states represented were IL, MI, FL, MO, TN and also the country of Paraguay, South America. I was privileged to have my son Don there. It was a special time for all. Sunday afternoon they gave a reception and book signing of my book “Lessons For Living”. It was put in the newspaper and my GED typing teacher that I hadn’t seen in 38 years read it and came to see if I was her student from years ago. |
