(excerpts from chapter 15 of my book, "Lessons for Living") “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me...to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.” Isaiah 61:1 (NKJV) From outer appearances, many people seem to have it “all together”, but inside they may be a wreck going somewhere to happen. That was my situation before I learned that God had a great concern for my inner life. Matthew 6:33 tells us we are to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and then other things will be added to us. Remember, the kingdom is within you, not in some distant locale. Our theme Scripture (Isaiah 61:1) reminds us that God sent Jesus the Messiah into the world to heal the brokenhearted, and to bring freedom and comfort. I believe that means those painfully broken on the inside, those crushed by disappointments and wounded by the unending conflicts of this life. Have you been abused? Misused? Treated wrongly? Rejected? Has it affected you emotionally? Do you really want to be healed? Do you honestly want to get well? One of my favorite scriptures is John 5:5-6 where Jesus finds a man lying beside the pool of Bethesda and who has been sick with a lingering disease for 38 years. Knowing how long this poor man had been in that terrible condition, Jesus asked him, “Do you want to become well?” Are you really in earnest about getting well? (vs. 6) Like many people today, this man had “a deep-seated and lingering disorder” for a long time. He obviously had learned to function with his infirmity after 38 years. People who are in prison function, but they are not free. However, sometimes prisoners—whether physical or emotional—become so accustomed to being in bondage that they settle in with their condition and learn to live with it. Gaining freedom from emotional bondage is not easy. In order to learn to view ourselves as conquerors instead of as victims, we must believe what the Bible says about us rather than our own distorted self-perceptions. The Spirit himself bears witness with our Spirit that we are the children of God. We can become emotionally whole. Thanks to Him there is life after abuse in spite of satan.
GUADALAJARA, MEXICO SEMINAR
Guadalajara is the 2nd largest city in Mexico. It has a contrast of modern structures and homes with dirt floors and extreme poverty. Sis. Esther McMasters and I will be working with John & Cheryl Robles to hold a first time ladies seminar conference in Guadalajara. The women have great anticipation for God to move in a special way. We are expecting close to 500 in attendance.
